Abstract

In this paper some archival sources ‒ notarial acts and ecclesiastical patrimonial and accounting books ‒ are collected, relating to the Jewish presence in the city of Barletta in 15th and 16th centuries. Many names of Jews in Barletta in that period emerge, as well as useful indications on the location of the Judeca quarter and the local synagogue. The introduction underlines the strategic function of Barletta both in sea and land trade, especially during regular trade fairs, also mentioning the privileges granted by the central government to protect the pecuniary interests of the Jews living there.
