Abstract

VALORENAPOLI: THE EVALUATION OF CULTURAL ECOSYSTEM
SERVICES FOR A CIRCULAR CITY MODEL
Abstract
The Circular City Model concerns the theoretical and methodological framework, useful to
identify, to process, and to evaluate the transformation opportunities for sustainable urban
development. Culture is one of the critical components for a new challenge: considering the
“cultural waste” as resources to promote new approaches to sustainable urban regeneration.
Starting from a set of indicators for the city of Naples, a new classification was proposed: it
considers knowledge framework in terms of Cultural Ecosystem Services, in their tangible
and intangible dimensions. The methodological approach has allowed identifying enabling
cultural contexts through a Cultural Ecosystem Services concentration areas’ mapping,
proposing a tool to support policy-makers for the identification of territorial development
policies and strategies consistent with circular city model.
