Abstract

The increasing scarcity of public resources has forced many Italian municipalities, with the connivence of a growing revocatory culture in the field of urban planning, to be accomplices in the degradation of the landscape, unnaturally increasing the degree of development of the land. While it is obvious that this model of “development” given over to the speculation of the real estate market cannot be sustained, there emerges the urgent need for urban planning on inter-municipal and metropolitan level which knows how to optimize the ever fewer opportunities to regenerate the urban territories which are so seriously endangered. The data available for the Milanese context give us the possibility to research the phenomenon in greater detail.
