Abstract

The six great Lombard lakes make up a district situated between the high plain of the Po and the Apls, with marked landscape characteristics. The physical and biological environment (and, in particular, the vegetation) and the work of many centuries of man have in fact defined this territory with components whose organic juxtapositioning gives us landscapes which have both at the same time a strong sense of territorial unity and of an accentuated individuality.  The great Lombard lakes constitute therefore an important cultural and landscape patrimony which demand for their conservation and appreciation adequate care and sensitivity
