Abstract

The essay reconstructs the hospital network established in Capua, the third city of the kingdom of Sicily after Naples and L'Aquila. Starting from the first foundations of the 12th century, placed along the course of the ancient via Appia and dependent on the local archbishopric and the more ancient religious-military orders - San Giovanni di Gerusalemme Hospital, San Giacomo d'Altopascio Hospital, San Lazzaro Hospital etc. -, up to the institutions born in the Angevin Age on lay initiative - for example, the Sant'Eligio Hospital, Casa Santa dell'Annunziata Hospital, etc.
