The article aims at intervening on some relevant positions of Ernst Cassirer’s theoretical and historiographical thought, outlining the framework of the interests that move from the work on Substance and Function to the great fresco of The Philosophy of Symbolic Forms within the culture of his time, which includes the remarkable voices of Husserl and Scheler. Showing the centrality of language and expressive function in the itinerary of the thinker from Breslau, the article focuses on the fundamental theoretical turning point that implies the elaboration of Kant’s magisterium and goes towards a new critical philosophy of culture to re-propose in its own way the centrality of man.
