Abstract

The present work aims to trace the deeper roots of the concept of Hegelian history in the framework of the doctrine of Kant's schematism. What we propose is to draw a line of continuity between the produktive Einbildungskraft of the philosopher of Königsberg, and the Selbstbewusstsein of Hegel. The concept of self-awareness of the young Hegel is in fact to be understood, from our point of view, as a moment in which the extreme and radical consequences of the schematism of the first Critique are dealt with, revised in light of the Kantian considerations on teleology elaborated in the Critique of Judgment. In this sense, Hegel can be placed as the “solution” to the rift opened up in the heart of culture during the Enlightenment.
