The purpose of this study is to provide an analysis of the most recent research in the field of Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIEd) with the aim of exploring new trends and current challenges of AI in education. This study therefore investigated AIEd through a systematic review of articles published in the Web of Science database within the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) journal. The main models and approaches used to support learning such as personalisation of teaching, rapid assessment of performance and early identification of learning difficulties are presented. The results show how artificial intelligence can represent a significant opportunity to personalise teaching-learning processes and a valuable tool to help teachers identify more effective teaching strategies.
