The purpose of this study is to take into consideration the public document dispatched from the imperial Chancery of Henry VII to Francesco Pico and his relatives at 1311 July 25. It's a very important document because of two reasons: first, it makes very strong the grounds of his family as lord of the curiae of Quarantoli and San Possidonio, located in the north part of the modern country of Modena; second, it's a masterpiece of juridic science, because it contains some exact quotations to the ancient roman law (from Codex and Novellae of Justinian), that allow the Emperor to justify the legal establishment of the feudal power of the Pico family for some centuries afterwards.
