Abstract

The text focuses on Pio Carlo Falletti and his contribution to late nineteenth century Italian historiography. He introduced to the thought of Paquale Villari, the positivist historian, and paid special attention to economic and social themes. The purpose is an appreciation of his cultural role (until now quite undervalued), especially in vocational training of several young historians (Nicolò Rodolico, Albano Sorbelli, Vito Vitale).
