Abstract

The contributions collected here aim to investigate the economic, social, political, and cultural impact of the fashion phenomenon during its early emergence in the 13th-14th centuries, through the production and consumption of garments. The idea is to examine the monetary value of raw materials such as wool, silk, leather, and clothing, relating the analyses to the social and political significance these artifacts held in the contexts under consideration. Additionally, the discussions on the cultural value of clothing derived from the literature of the time will not be neglected. In this domain, some authors reflect on economic and moral issues that were made urgent by the daily practices of accessing credit and the function of objects as parallel currencies, particularly clothing.
