Abstract

SMALL ARCHIPELAGOS AS INLAND AREAS

The small Italian archipelagos could represent paradigmatic places of the “internality” as it has been outlined by SNAI. They are ideal places to verify the strategies’ operability and effectiveness of improving the “habitability” of peripheral and ultra-peripheral contexts of the national territory, considering the high number of Italian small islands.
The challenge is to build local development processes based on tangible and intangible resources, enhancing the extraordinary opportunities offered by large loans that are able of transforming the extraordinary into ordinary. The aim is to reverse the course of progressive abandonment of the islands, accompanying them in processes of territorial regeneration and enhancement of the cultural heritage.
