Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the “circular economy approach” to understand how to
apply it for the regeneration of port areas.
The circular economy has the potential to help us make better decision about resource use,
design out waste, provide benefit for business, and proceed along a secure route to societywide
prosperity and environmental sustainability for future regeneration (Ellen MacArthur
Foundation, 2015).
Through the analysis of the some best practices, in this paper, a design exercise has been
proposed for the Torre Annunziata port area regeneration, with the aim to activate new
symbioses between the urbanized city and the waterfront.
Keywords: circular economy, waterfront regeneration
