The city in plural, a synthesis of civilization

Abstract

The city is an expression and a synthesis of the different concepts of the urban world, with regard to dwellings as well as public places, which lends itself mainly to pluralized contemporary society. In this article the activities of the Pilot Project Re.La.Te –Rete Laboratori Territoriali are presented, which have made possible the development of methodologies of approaching the problems caused by inter-ethnic co-habitation in urban environments. This article also discusses the potentialities offered by the new technologies with regard to the use and the conformation of the city. Hence it is necessary in the light of the new social and cultural developments that the instruments of urban planning be used in a new context which is based on the problem of civilized co-existence.
