Abstract

To talk about the road in history means to give up the stereotyped idea of the monumental road and to hypothesize that there might exist a less high sounding patrimony  -fragile and widespread. The objective of this paper is to give several keys of interpretation of the landscape in relation to the deep rooted structures of the places and with the pemanence of historical traces of these very same places by studying their roads. Starting with some observations about historical road maps, then the “landscape of the road” is taken into consideration, which from “careful view of testimonial evidence, goes to a more comprehensive view of the road as an underlying theme of territorial identification with its various transformations.
