Abstract

The tradition of American landscape architecture has made Boston an advanced field for project experimentation. The Emerald Necklace – a true “icon” of landscape architecture- still very effectively shows the capacity of the landscape project to give life to the structure of present day metropolises with spaces for human society. At present Boston faces the damage done to its landscape by the CENTRAL ARTERY with results, probably, not worthy of its history. The partial success of the Rose Kennedy Greenway points to the necessity of redefining the roles and fields of study which have to do with projecting open spaces.
