As part of a project for the redevelopment of the areas adjacent to the cathedral of Avellino, several exploratory essays have been carried out together with operations to recover the occupation of the area for cognitive purposes, which coincides, according to historiography, with the places populated during the centuries of the Middle Ages. Therefore, ceramic and metal materials from the area known today as the former seminar of the municipality of Avellino are presented, in relation to the phases of use and abandonment highlighted during the archaeological excavation activities. The finds presented cover a very wide chronological range and have been recovered, for the most part, from the obliteration deposits of the post-medieval and modern drainage ditches created for the leveling of the spaces of the former Episcopal Seminary. In particular, the absence of some ceramic classes highlights a possible lack of attendance during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, a period during which the site was used only as a cemetery area, confirmed by the presence of earthen burials. Probably a more exhaustive excavation in areas more overlooking the cathedral would provide new essential and interesting data, not yet emerged, for the history of the city itself.
