Abstract

The friendship among the monks of Camaldoli and Vallombrosa in the Middle Ages can be a-nalyzed by various points of view. There is the friendship among people, that often takes the form of the relationship between teacher and disciple in the monastic tradition. The friendship of the man with the nature and the animals, spread exspecially among the hermits that live in the forests. The friendship between monks and laymen, benefactors and many others who are near to the spirituality of the monks. The friendship among the institutions, that admit with particular care the monks of the joint monastery and remember them in their prayers. Finally, friendship can be a fundamental value to build a monastic congregation: it gives a first form to a dawning institution.
