Abstract

The article concerns the phases of the affirmation in Pavia as capital of the Gothic and Lombard kingdom between 5th and 8th century, tryng to explain the specificities of the capital in such period as the foundation of the royal palace and regal churches and monasteries, the continuity of use of the cemeteries between Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages and the absence in the capital of burials with with grave-goods.
