This paper analyses the book The Lands of Saint Ambrose. Monks and Society in Early Medieval Milan by Ross Balzaretti, focusing on the relationship between the monastery of Saint Ambrose and the lay and ecclesiastical elites active in Milan between the 8th and 10th centuries.
