This book focuses on a figure who has been surrounded by aggrandising myths and historiographical rhetoric from ancient times to the present day. The systematic critical review of sources makes it an authentic masterpiece of historiographical minimalism in the same way as Arnaldo da Brescia by Arsenio Frugoni.
