Abstract

Naples ‘overseas city’ in Federico Patellani’s photographic story

The fascist state invested a great deal of energy in the construction of the Mostra d’oltremare. A huge advertising campaign supported the construction and inauguration, conveying an official image of the Exhibition, that was pleasing to the regime. In an antithetical manner, Federico Patellani, a photojournalist in his early days, told of a different Exhibition, revealing with curiosity and interest the architecture, but also the human side of the designers, workers and visitors, shortly before the closure of the structure due to the Second World War.
