Abstract

Starting from the enlightening considerations formulated by Bernard Rudofsky about the polysemic character that distinguishes the stairs of the Umbrian historical centres and that goes beyond the mere functional value of urban connection, the contribution explores the scenographic vocation of two case studies as singular as emblematic: via dell’Arringo in Spoleto, which expresses its identity of static theatre, and Via Appia in Perugia, which embodies the role of dynamic theatre.
