Abstract

Svitlana Hryhorchik and Emilienne Bouampoundi Ouba are two women, with different origins and migratory plans, who joined their efforts in defending immigrants rights. Their stories show the problematic condition of foreign women in Southern Italy. In a typically masculine contest, those associations have different needs, especially concerning their gender condition. For many women, the migration experience could be a valuable opportunity to emancipate themselves from their traditionalist family unit, and joining an association can open their  minds.
