Mujeres Libres (Free Women) was one of the most prominent women’s organizations during the Spanish Civil War in Republican territory. This women-only anarchist movement was founded a few months before the outset of the Civil War and active throughout the conflict, aiming to organize Republican women’s fight against fascism and empower its members. This article focuses on the analysis of the magazine edited by Mujeres Libres members and other archive documents, both playing a role in shaping this organization’s anarcho-feminist theories and original views on the condition of women. In particular, I will explore the methods and means proposed by Mujeres Libres in order to further women’s empowerment and active, autonomous, and aware participation in social struggles and fight against fascism.Downloads
