Abstract

Starting from Ernesto de Martino's criticism to the Crocean religion of freedom, the Author analysing Benedetto Croce's writings completely reverses his judgment, and shows how the great Neapolitan master's philosophy, far from being a “non-ideological conception of world and life” or an “ethical commitment”, increasingly showed profound closeness to religious themes till he merged and mingled with them.
