ASPECTS OF RESTORATION OF THE MODERN. THE ‘CINEMA TEATRO’ OF THE FORMER ‘ISTITUTO PER I FIGLI DEL POPOLO DI NAPOLI’ IN THE REGIME'S PROPAGANDA SYSTEM
The ‘Istituto per i Figli del Popolo di Napoli’, in Fuorigrotta, is an example of the Fascist regime’s efforts to provide assistance. It was supposed to house the young orphans of Naples to offer them primary education and then professional and technical qualifications, with the aim of training young recruits for the new Fascist society. Among the buildings, the Cinema Teatro stands out for its experimental character, unusual forms, and unique function. Behind the pure white volumes of an almost organic architecture, there are technical and structural issues, particular materials, and finishes. These elements become essential in any discussion of restoration of the modern, which must concern itself not only with the study of the lost
image, but also with the technical peculiarities, the study and recovery of materials that are now almost forgotten, fragile, and the outcome of industrial experimentation of the time.
