STATE LITURGY AND RELIGIOUS LITURGY. BETWEEN FORMAL AND TYPOLOGICAL RESEARCH, THE CHURCH OF THE “EX ISTITUTO PER I FIGLI DEL POPOLO DI NAPOLI”
The relationship between the Church and the fascist regime was born in 1929 with the stipulation of the so-called “Patti Lateranensi” signed between today's Vatican State and the Italian State, ratified by Benito Mussolini and Cardinal Gasparrini. This act generated the dualism between state and religious liturgy. This dichotomy was to be expressed through the constant presence, in the regime’s projects, of buildings for worship. In all the urban plants that were built, these buildings had a clear and polarising role within the proposed “city model”. One example is the “Istituto per i Figli del Popolo di Napoli” in Bagnoli, which contains, along with other buildings, a church. The presence of this building is an example of how strong this dualism was, steeped in political reasons for both institutions.
