REHABITING URBAN AND BUILDING HERITAGE IN THE INTERNAL
TERRITORIES: DIGITAL SPACE FOR EFFICIENT HEALTH SERVICES
Abstract
The need of physical distance that identifies the current pandemic is linked to the liveability
of urban areas and living spaces. The pressing need for quality of life, as well as in physical
and in human relations, addresses to consider those places that are depositories for their
historical sedimentation. A possible response is to rehabilitate internal minor centres, as
places in low population density, places resilient to urban mutations and healthy. These
places, however, are affected by marginality and lack of infrastructure and services. Digital
technologies are proposed as an aid in the recovery of urban heritage distributed in internal
territories, implementing new performances and helping to preserve their physicality. The
study has focused on healthcare services, according to an interscalar vision: from a
comprensory to living spaces; with the use of digital technologies, the condition of
marginality can be reduced through telemedicine, with itinerant and on-demand services,
with the aim of offering better opportunities to geographically disadvantaged communities.
