Within the commitments for a transition of cities towards Circular Economy, the term regeneration has been used with multiple meanings, focused on the principles of conservation and transfer of resources to future generations. Cities, complex systems, where many innovation processes started, are now laboratories where we experience the renewal of the decarbonization project and the improvement of life quality for individuals and communities. This paper describes the urban regeneration processes carried on in the city of Parma based on two principles: building on the built and reducing the use of land. Unesco Creative City for Gastronomy in 2015, Italian Capital for Culture 2020 + 21, Parma pursues aims of built environment decarbonization, through pilot experiences, marked by a long-term perspective, within the socio-cultural districts.
