A green infrastructure in the Sardinian regional context
Several studies available in the current literature identify green infrastructures as suppliers of a wide body of ecosystem services, mainly with reference to city environments, and connectivity-related functions as the most effective features of ecological corridors as regards reduction of landscape fragmentation and mitigation of negative impacts thereof. In this theoretical and technical context, a limited number of research works relate green infrastructure and ecological corridors to the definition and implementation of spatial policies and planning measures. The objective of this study, that takes Sardinia as a case study, is to provide a methodology to ground this relation by combining the appraisal of a set of ecosystem services with the identification of an ecological corridor network based on the concept of resistance to spatial flows of species. A regression is estimated to analyze such connections whose results target three ecosystem services as the most effective in driving spatial flows of species, which planning policies should be focused on. These are climate regulation at the local scale, forest and woodland services, and assets related to culture, social identity and historical heritage.
