I suffissi indo-ir. *-vka tra genealogia e variazione
Abstract
The reconstruction of *-Vka- suffixes in Indo-Iranian has been widely debated. At the beginning of the twentieth century, many scholars, operating within the theoretical framework provided by the Neogrammarians, deny the presence of these suffixes in the Çgveda and, as a consequence, their reconstruction in Indo-Iranian, and even more so in Proto-Indo-European. Today we consider the linguistic change in the light of diachronic, dialectal, and sociolinguistic variability, and we benefit from a better knowledge of the Iranian languages. Therefore we argue that these suffixes are attested in Vedic and Avestan, witnessed by the parallel traditions for Old Persian, and that they are attributable to Indo-Iranian; their scarce attestation mainly depends on their low sociolinguistic character.
