Abstract

This article discusses the glass plates negatives of the Codex Atlanticus housed in the Warburg Institute in London. Based on my first-hand examination of this previously uncatalogued historical material and on the evidence found on the surviving lids of their original boxes, it offers new visual documentary evidence for assessing the early legacy of the Codex Atlanticus. It also provides comparisons between key Warburg glass plate negatives and the corresponding illustrations from the Hoepli edition, including references to the glass plate negatives in the Archivio Fotografico delle Civiche Raccolta d’Arte Applicata e Incisione in Milan. A comprehensive Table of Concordance is additionally supplied.
