Through the simultaneous operation of writing in Sicilian dialect and self-translation into language, Nino De Vita’s poetry represents one of the most successful poetic experiences in the ultra-contemporary literary panorama. In this contribution, we will examine the poem L’aranciaru with the aim of highlighting the autochthonous nature of the dialectal vocabulary used by the poet, and, subsequently, to test the consistency of the parallel text in Italian (Il pescatore di granchi), in terms of lexicon, metric-rhythmic and syntactic structures, and figural elements. We will thus attempt to accompany the writer at his workbench, penetrating the mechanisms and strategies implemented for the drafting of poetic texts which are fully multilingual.
