August Strindberg and the study of Latin

This is the second part of an article written by Strindberg about studying Latin and published on the Gothenburg daily “Handelstidningen” (26th July 1872). [The first part of the same article had been translated by me and published in “Quaderni di classiconorroena”, I – 2005, 4-8]. This is the first Italian translation.
Strindberg focuses on the basis of national culture and invites the Swedish to think about own linguistics history. Since his youth he always tended to study his mother tongue and national culture, ancient Nordic literature and old language as fundamentals against the modern obsession with studying Latin. His ironic underlining about didactics and teaching methods in schools seem still topical nowadays.Downloads
